Preparing For Your Tan

Upon arrival, we will have a consultation and decide what techniques and products work best for you.

Disposable thongs, disposable robe, nose filters, face masks, lip balm, and shower caps are available per FDA recommendations. You are tanning at your own risk.

As per FDA recommendations we do offer face masks.

Please do not shower right before your spray tan as your skin will remain hydrated from the shower and will not give the best results.

  • Shave, shower and exfoliate the night before your tanning appointment. We have exfoliating mitts and exfoliating scrubs available here at the salon.
  • Showering a minimum of 4 hours before your session is acceptable if you cannot do it the evening before.
  • Coming right from the gym is NOT recommended as the sweat will create a barrier.
  • Waxing and spa services (pedicure, massage, facial) should be done a minimum of 2 days before your spray tan as the oils can leave a barrier.
  • Do not use deodorant, makeup, perfume, or moisturizers (including the moisture strip on a razor) the day of your tanning session.
  • Bring loose fitting clothing and flip flops. (Looser the better!)
  • You may tan in the undergarment of your choice (preferably a dark color).
  • Ladies may tan topless. Bathing suits and underwear also work well.
  • Pull hair back high and tight on top of your head if possible.

Maintaining Your Tan

We use rapid tanning solution:

Only rinse with water at our recommended time frame which will be between 2 and 4hrs, this is just a rinse. You will not be using soap until your first real shower the next day. Make sure you rinse well, behind your ears, back of your legs as the bronzer will be sticking to your skin, similar to makeup.

It is very IMPORTANT that you rinse in the timeframe we provide for you in order to get the best results. Waiting longer or earlier can adversely affect the color of the tan, making it too light or to dark.

  • Wearing a bra is NOT recommended.
  • Wear loose clothing till after you rinse.
  • ONLY rinse with water- NO soap or any other product until the next morning after your session. Make sure your face and ears are rinsed as well. It is very IMPORTANT that you rinse in the time frame we provide for you in order to get the best results. Waiting longer or earlier can adversely affect the color of the tan, making it too light or too dark.
  • You may see color wash off during your first shower which is normal as it is just the cosmetic bronzer washing off. Do not scrub, use loofahs or washcloths at the time of the rinse. When you come out of the rinse, you will think the color disappeared, but NO WORRIES as it takes 8 hours developing time. The convenience of not having to sleep in the solution is so nice and you are able to wear whatever you want after that rinse.
  • Avoid any activity that will result in sweating. Refrain from swimming and getting wet. Working out is NOT recommended immediately after your spray tan.
  • Please do not allow your pet to lick or jump on you.

The next day:

  • You may take a REGULAR shower. Our aftercare products are recommended for use.
  • No moisturizers or creams until AFTER your first real shower. Apply our recommended body lotion or butter and/or tan extender generously post shower. Application twice daily is recommended for optimal results.

Additionally:

  • Spa Treatments are not recommended after your airbrush tan (ex: massage, facial, pedicure).
  • Dove products are NOT recommended.
  • Swimming will fade your tan.

Products to Avoid

Please refrain from the following products as they are known to fade and ruin a sunless tan:

  • Loofahs, washcloths, baby oil, mineral oil, massage oils, bug sprays, anti-aging products that exfoliate, Dove products (creates skin barriers and your tan will not take) alcohol based toners, astringents (cleansing agents). Any products containing AHA’s or BHA’s or RETIN, accutane and salicylic acids can cause issues. Avoid long swims in pools and oceans as the chlorine and salt water can cause fading (bromine can cause fading).
  • A spray tan does NOT protect your skin from the sun, so make sure you use sunscreen. We offer sunscreen designed for airbrush tan protection. Please consult with me if you are unsure if a product is safe for your tan.
  • Some medications as well as menstrual cycles and hormones can affect the tan as well.
  • Poor skin preparation will result in a poor tan.

Remember, that the spray tan is on the outer layer of the skin, anything that exfoliates will remove the tan.

Aftercare Products

You will see a huge difference in how your tan lasts and fades when you use proper products that are made specifically for sunless tanning. These products are made with the purest ingredients such as 100% Coconut Oil, Moroccan Argan Oil, Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Apple Fruit Extracts.

  • Body Wash

  • Exfoliating Scrub
  • Body Butter
  • Shimmer Dust

  • Use of Protective Undergarments
  • Use of Protective Eyewear
  • Use of Nose Filters
  • Sealing Lips with Lip Balm

Please request the above items from your sunless technician.

Mobile Tanning Tips

Please read and sign the consent (or you may do so at your session). Waivers are filled out once per year.

What to expect when having a mobile tan:

Your artist will bring everything she needs in order to create a flawless-looking natural tan in the comfort of your home, including a pop-up tent, drop sheets to protect the area around the tent. The application only takes about 10 to 15 minutes and then you will remain dry until the recommended rinse period. Super quick and convenient!

Will my spray tan look better after I shower?

Depending on the type of solution used, you may find the tan will change after your shower. Those with clear solution tans, you will slowly see the tan develop over the next 24-hours. If your tan had cosmetic bronzer in it, it will appear that the tan has nearly rinsed off during your shower. However, that will also gradually develop.

Will I see my tan immediately after?

If the solution used has bronzer in it, you will see product on the skin but this is not the finished result. After you rinse and wait 12 to 24 hours, you will see the fully developed tan.

How long does it last?

The best tan is typically day two to five, and will likely start fading gradually after that. It can last up to 9 to 10 days and even longer if you maintain the tan well, especially if you use our tan extender.

Will it be messy?

When the spray tan is done in a pop-up tent, the artist will provide proper items to protect the surrounding area, so little to no product will escape the designed area.

What happens if you shower too soon after a spray tan?

The tan will not have sufficient time to develop and it might not build to the desired color depth. It will likely be lighter than you expected.

Can you go out after a spray tan?

It is best to wait until after your first rinse. Your spray tan artist will let you know what the recommended rinse time is based on your desired results and products used.

How is a spray tan done?

HVLP or Airbrush Spray Tanning, is applied by using a handheld machine and air pressure spray tan gun. It allows for full customization and a flawless result.

Do they spray your face in a spray tan?

That choice is up to each individual, however, most people spray their face.
Spray tan facial contour is also a popular choice.

Is it embarrassing to get a spray tan?

You should never feel uncomfortable or embarrassed. Your spray tan artist is a professional, and sprays many people every day. It is the artist’s responsibility to make you feel comfortable. There is no judgment in our spray tanning room.

Can a pale person get a spray tan?

Absolutely, there is an option for all skin tones.

How often should you spray tan?

Some people tan weekly, but it is best to have the tan fully removed and skin exfoliated before your next session. 9 to 10 days usually allows your skin to be fresh before your next tan.

Where is the best location on-site to get a spray tan?

For mobile spray tans, you will need an area that is well lit, have an electrical outlet nearby, and some privacy. Your artist will bring everything required to perform the spray tan service.

Bridal Tanning Tips

Please read and sign the consent (or you may do so at your session). Waivers are filled out once per year.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! To help you look your best on your special day, we have some tips to help make you say “I do” to the perfect spray tan!

A wedding is one of the most important days for a bride to be. You have taken the time to make sure your dress, venue, and other details are perfect. In all my years of spray tanning, it is common to see many brides booking their sunless tanning appointments at the last minute. Some even book their appointment a day or two before the wedding! Leaving this important detail for the last minute is not a good idea, especially if you are a first-time spray tanner.

You want your sunless tan applied by a trained professional. This ensures a perfect application. So, while researching, make sure to read reviews and check out the spray tan artist’s portfolio. You want to use someone who specializes in bridal tanning and knows what they are doing. You found us!

When it comes to how dark you should be for your wedding, please listen to the professional. When I get a new client that books without a trial, I always recommend that they go light and natural. Just because they might want a dark tan, it might not be the best for their skin tone.

They should not risk any unnatural color or the dreaded orange look. A bridal tan should always enhance your natural beauty, not overpower it. When you walk down the aisle, you want to show off your gown and flawless beauty. You do not want the tan to take over and be the first thing people notice.

Booking a Trial Spray Tan

I recommend a bride should book a trial at least a month or so in advance. This way, you can get sprayed at least once, if not twice beforehand. It also gives us ample time to further customize the tan if you want to go darker or lighter. You’ll also have enough time to see the true longevity and fade, which is important if you want the tan to last for the honeymoon. You also have the chance to ensure you have enough time to get the old spray tan off before your sunless tan for the big day. (You never want to spray tan over an existing spray tan!)

Do not get a spray tan on the day of a dress fitting. This can result in bronzer getting on the gowns, which the bridal shop will not appreciate.

If you do not have time for a bridal tan trial, that’s okay. We will customize a color that will be gorgeous for you.

Let’s Talk Pre-Wedding Festivities!

Most brides need to consider the events they have planned for their wedding weekend. After consulting with them, there have been a few that I have actually turned away, as the events were not compatible with spray tanning. Discuss your planned activities with your spray tan professional to see if this service is the best choice for you.

Here is a list of some post-wedding activities that can negatively affect your spray tan results:

  • Massages and certain spa treatments.
  • A tropical climate or destination wedding.
  • Beach and water activities.

Some Important Tips for Tanners

Proper preparation is the key to achieving a flawless tan. Even if you chose a bridal tanning expert, the way you prepare for your spray tan can make or break your chance for a flawless experience.

Here are some helpful tips for preparing for your spray tan:

  • Exfoliate your skin the day before or even for a few days leading up to the spray tan. (Do not exfoliate on the day of your sunless tan.)
  • I recommend you use exfoliating gloves rather than a washcloth or loofah. Also refrain from a scrub that contains oils, unless it is more than a day before your appointment. Oils can leave a film on your skin that can create a barrier, and possibly block the spray tan absorption.
  • Never go to your spray tan session with any existing self tanner, or an old spray tan on your body.
  • Consider getting sprayed topless. Just like a regular tan, bras or bikini tops leave tan lines. This is something to consider, especially if you have a strapless or backless gown.
  • While the tan is developing, drink out of a straw to avoid getting any liquid on you.
  • If you only have time to do one trial, and you are not sure how dark you want to be, ask for the darker color at your trial. It is always better to have to go lighter for the wedding spray, rather than risking going darker for the big day and ending up with an unnatural color.
  • Manicures and pedicures must be done before the spray tan session. If it is on the same day, you cannot have any lotions or oils applied to your body, as these create a barrier that prevents the spray tan solution from being absorbed.
  • You need to refrain from massages after your spray tan session, or on the same day of your appointment. This seems to be a common pre-wedding ritual.
  • Waxing and shaving should always be done 24-48 hours in advance.
  • Do not use oils, lotions, perfumes, or deodorant the day of the tan, as these can act as a skin barrier and cause streaking or color from being absorbed in certain areas.
  • Many people think that they should shower right before the appointment, but I highly recommend you don’t. That is because when you shower, the steam will open the pores and your body gets very hydrated. This can adversely affect your tan because your skin might not absorb all of the solution. This results in a lighter tan and can take longer to dry off. I recommend showering at least four hours before, by doing a light rinse with no soap or body wash, except on your armpits and private areas. If you absolutely must shower before your appointment, do not use very hot water or any soap or body wash, and make it a quick rinse.
  • Make sure you have the proper clothing to change into after your spray tan session. Refrain from wearing tight clothes such as yoga pants. Wear loose, dark clothing instead to avoid messing up the tan.

All the Best on Your Special Day!

When getting a spray tan before your wedding, don’t be shy about asking questions of your sunless tanning tech. We are here to help you look your best for your special day, so a professional spray tan artist shouldn’t mind answering their tanners’ questions. Also don’t be shy about asking for a printed list of aftercare instructions to make sure you take care of your tan and preserve it for your wedding. You have enough to worry about for your wedding, so you should trust your spray tan to the professional who applies it to your body.

Teeth Whitening

Is SunnaSmile safe for sensitive teeth? Will my teeth and gums be in pain after?

Expect little to no sensitivity after using SunnaSmile. It was formulated with sensitive teeth in mind. It’s safe on enamel, protects gums, causes little to no sensitivity and is a registered natural health product. A very small percentage of people will have minor discomfort in their mouth and this normally dissipates within 10 minutes.

What does SunnaSmile taste like?

Fresh, minty and lightly sweet! SunnaSmile whitening gel will not make much contact with your tongue (it’s ok if it does) so you likely won’t notice a taste to the gel at all.

What makes SunnaSmile different from other whitening treatments?

SunnaSmile is different from other whitening options in several ways: it’s safe on enamel, protects gums, causes little to no-sensitivity, is a registered natural health product and on top of all that, it’s more cost-effective. One SunnaSmile at-home whitening kit is the equivalent in whitening power to 50 tubes of whitening toothpaste, 25 dental whitening syringes and 5 packages of strips!

Can I use SunnaSmile during pregnancy?

We recommend that you contact your physician prior to using whitening while pregnant. However, no government issued restrictions currently exist.

What is the minimum age restriction to use SunnaSmile?

The recommended minimum age to use SunnaSmile is 12. If you’re unsure, please check with your dentist.

Can I use SunnaSmile if I have gingivitis?

If you have gingivitis or any periodontal disease you should consult with your dentist prior to whitening.

Should I have a cleaning prior to whitening?

If possible, yes! And if you had not had a cleaning in the last 6 months, we highly recommend it.

Can I use SunnaSmile if I have crowns, caps or veneers?

SunnaSmile is safe for crowns, caps and veneers, and stains will be removed during whitening, returning to their original color.
